LAS VEGAS, NV, January 5, 2006 - Magna Donnelly, an operating group of Magna International Inc. and the world's largest producer of automotive mirror systems, provides an extra set of eyes behind your vehicle with VideoMirror™.
VideoMirror™ reduces the fear of hidden dangers and obstacles when parking, backingup or hitching trailers. It uses patented technology to conceal a 3.5" full-color display which receives its picture from a universal rear mounted camera. When the vehicle is put into reverse the video display automatically deploys from the side of the mirror providing the driver an image of the area behind their vehicle both day and night. The VideoMirror™ slide out display is in the driver's natural line of sight which does not compromise a driver's traditional field of view or create distracting glare that is common to other displays.
"At Magna Donnelly we are focused on developing practical technology that makes life easier for drivers. VideoMirror™ reduces dangerous blind spots to assist in reversing the vehicle, to improve safety. Our smart designs and our innovative employees set Magna Donnelly apart from the competition," said Carlos Mazzorin, president, Magna Donnelly.
VideoMirror™ was designed with families in mind. In the last five years, there have been a significant number of back-over incidents in the U.S. including those involving small children.
The Consumer Electronics Association (CEA®) in conjunction with the International Consumer Electronics Show (CES®) announced Magna Donnelly's VideoMirror™ as an award winner for the 2006 Technology is a Girl's Best Friend (TechGirl) Diamond Product Showcase in the mobile/automotive electronics category.
As a TechGirl award honoree Magna Donnelly was selected based on results from a recently conducted survey by CEA Market Research. The survey sampled more than 1,600 people to determine the features most important to women in consumer electronics devices. The survey results showed that audio and safety equipment ranked high in the mobile/automotive electronic category.
